Lilyka Manga is an imprint of Digital Manga Inc. In addition to doujinshi Lilyka also sells Yuri visual novels and organizes special limited-run signed shikishi events.
The imprint holds interviews with Yuri mangaka and community members. YuriMother was interviewed by Lilyka in July and discussed some of the platform's top titles:
Mintaro's Lily Fairy Tale series is a must-read, in my opinion. It is a sort of anthology set at a school full of girls from classic fairy tales. Each issue focuses on a different odd pairing of classic characters like Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty, or Cinderella and Little Red Cap. Such a creative concept blends these well-known characters and stories with a new Yuri twist and a faint eerie atmosphere, as each character has an inevitable fate. Plus, minatro-sensei's illustrations are adorable and have an enchanting air about them.
I also strongly advocate for Ruri Hazuki's work if you like a more chaotic read. I think I once described her series Saturday as "wild and sloppy." Yet, I find the series oddly charming and incredibly salacious! The idea of a company comprised of women who all constantly flirt and seduce each other with such vigor and frequency that there is a literal chart to keep track of it all is sheerly absurd!
SHWD by sono.N is one of my all-time favorite works, and considering I read Yuri for a living, that is pretty high praise. I love the darker tone and elements of horror in it, particularly in any scene with the Dynamis, which always sends a shudder down my spine. The action scenes with them are always thrilling and spectacularly illustrated. However, the character designs are easily the best part. In Yuri, we get a lot of cute, fluffy romances and slice-of-life series with moe schoolgirls, so it is a welcome change to see some larger, mature women with bludging muscles as they both kick butt and show off their more feminine, delicate side.
Lastly, no discussion of Lilyka's incredible offerings is complete without sincere praise of Alt Hanakage. Although much of the work I know her for is more sultry and, frankly, for that reason, not of much interest to me, her more dramatic and tender Shakaijin Yuri works are spectacular. Senpai no Kouhai, which, as she admitted to Lilyka, was based on her experiences as a lesbian, is so authentic. The reader gets a sense of both women's turmoil and regret, and the manga is so relatable to queer people.
Hanakage-sensei's other work on Lilyka, Ring On My Finger, is an exceptional short letter expressing both the profound love that two women can have for each other and the injustices LGBT people face every day, tailored through the lens of Japan's lack of marriage equality. The manga captures the voice of the queer community, their joys and their sorrows. It nearly brought me to tears. It is so beautiful.

It has been far too long since the last time I got to review some doujinshi from the Yuri heroes over at Lilyka Manga, and I am so happy to return with Aosaki Rusou's As You Wish... I am immediately hearted to see some of the efforts Lilyka is putting in to improve their product. The review copy of the manga I received was well put together, edited perfectly, and frankly indistinguishable from other major publishers' best English releases. I am most pleased to see that on the manga's final page. Here, an insert prominently credits translator Valeria Paolini and letterer Tiare Rocke. This addition is a welcome change from some of Lilyka's earlier works, in which the vital staff who helped bring the doujin West were not mentioned. I am equally pleased by Rusou Aosaki's work as well. I will admit, I had not read any of Rusou's work before this review, but I am quickly becoming a fan. As You Wish… stands out as a fun, fast, and unique item that I am happy to add to my collection.
The manga follows students and friends Komugi and Ichiko. The former is a schemer, continually trying to manipulate her classmates and sell them her grandmother's divine confections. Komugi's chief victim is Ichiko, who cannot resist spending exorbitant amounts of money on cakes and sweets. Whenever Ichiko eats the food, her mind is transported to another world, one where she is a young elite lady, enjoying the delightful treats made by her maid, Komugi. If this all sounds strange, that is because it very much is.
The premise features oddities one can only find in independent work. The reader's reaction to it may vary. I found it slightly confusing, especially with the fast pace of the storytelling at first. However, upon a second read through, I find myself more compelled and intruded by how much Rusou can fit into such a short narrative. The plot includes a pretty elaborate backstory for the characters, which made me appreciate the friendship and escape they provide for each other much more. The manga also features a fair amount of flirting and lots of humor, from innuendo to visual humor; I found myself cracking up more than a few times while reading the manga.
As You Wish… has a reasonably strange plot with a lot of moving parts, and while that might be contentious, the art certainly should not be. Aosaki Rusou presents some fantastic illustrations. Whether a visual gag about rebellious middle schoolers or a tantalizing moment of light fanservice, their visual style is detailed and impactful. Every page feels full and dynamic, matching the story's chaotic and fast energy without compromising quality. The only gripe I have is some of the character designs look a little strange such as Ichiko's wide moe eyes, especially when compared to everyone else. However, even these faults add to the work's charm in many places. The lettering choices in the English edition are also top-notch and make for a fantastic and dynamic reading experience, so kudos go to the adaptation team as well.
As You Wish… is a creative doujinshi full of imagination and genuine heart. It has a modest amount of depth but compelling characters and lots of humor to keep readers engaged in the bizarre adventure. Aosaki Rusou has done a great job bringing their unique vision to life with beautiful illustrations and writing. I am eager to see if any more Yuri offerings come this way from them, and I suggest you pick up a digital copy.
