The woods near Faeriewood are infamous. A berry forest so dense you can lose your way, yet the rumors of what is in its center ignite the curiosity of many cookies hoping to explore these cursed woods.
Rumor has it, a First Cookie lives in these woods… rumors say this witch is keen on keeping her victims trapped in an endless loop, others will say she is a benevolent guardian of something within…
Yet even so, no one has actually attempted to speak with this cookie…
Until now…

Dee was frolicking with far too little care for where she was stepping, in White Lily’s very professional opinion.
The Faerie Kingdom was, as always, protected by a spell that made the woods endless and rather easy to get lost in. That is- if you weren’t a faerie. Lily’s wings and pointed ears proved that she was.
At least… they should have.
As it was, they were having trouble leading the way. She had been forced to land halfway through the woods in order to examine the path closer, Dee close behind her.
“I dunno, Bug,” the aforementioned cookie said from her position on the edge of the path, bouncing on the balls of her feet, “Maybe you’re not using your faerie powers right? We could blast through the woods and solve a lot of our issues.”
True; blasting a hole in the trees would leave them with a straight shot to Faeriewood. It was efficient enough to save them time they would need for other endeavours.
There were a few flaws, though - the most obvious one being the faerie citizens’ reactions. It would be more time-consuming to force them into submission as opposed of White Lily simply reinstating herself as queen. So the woods would stay intact.
For now.
Dee paused in her bouncing, “Were you… actually thinking about it..? Bug, Lily - I was joking. Please don’t set fire to the trees.”
The faerie nodded. Duly noted.
“The woods recognize me,” they eventually spoke, “Both as fae and as a guest. But something is blocking the path. Even as the woods want me to get to Faeriewood, they’re pushing against me.”
White Lily turned to look at the dragon over their shoulder, “It’s not because of you. It’s specifically something about me.”
It couldn’t be the lantern. It couldn’t be the Witch magic in them. They were still a faerie. They were still recognized by the woods.
Why have you forsaken me, then? Was it my death? Am I unable to pass because I’m too broken to recognize?
A hand on their shoulder snapped them out of the spiral of thoughts, “Bug.”
The faerie turned to look at Dee, whose hand was pointing at a lazy coil of smoke in the sky.
“That’s nearby, too. I can smell just the barest hints of it,” she said, stepping fully off the path.
“Dee-“ is all they manage to get out before they, too, are pulled off the path by the dragon’s hand on their arm.
Well. That was not ideal.
Now I’ll have to find the path again, with my stupid malfunctioning faerie magic, and- and she could see the house now.
It wasn’t anything special - just a cottage positively covered in creeping vines from raspberries and strawberries alike. Blueberry bushes stood proudly against the side of the house, nestled between blackberries and even more strawberries.
“Oh,” White Lily breathed.
“Yeah,” Dee said from beside her, hand sliding down their arm to their gloved hand and staying there.
She didn’t comment on the action. Dee’s attachment would make things easier for her in the future. Silently, they squeezed the dragon’s hand.
The other cookie started, but rolled her eyes and tugged Lily along to the house anyways.
“Helloooo~ anyone ho-ome?” she called.
White Lily sighed.
This will go great, the faerie thought, Strange house in the woods? With our luck, this is some sort of Witch base they set up on Earthbread. I certainly wouldn’t put it past them.
Hell, they turned themselves into butterflies and followed me around for a year. That’s weirder.
