When James retired from MI6, he thought that he was escaping it all: the chaos, the unexpected surprises, the random threats on his life. There’s none of that at Skyfall Lodge… right? Until a bespectacled little child turns up on his doorstep out of the blue. James can’t just leave him outside with a storm rolling in - and thus James Bond, ex-Navy and ex-00-agent, is reminded once again of how small things can cause a lot of chaos.

Confessions are an odd way to start a bookmark, but I feel it's only fair to be honest: I wasn't sure I would enjoy a kid Q!fic. However, I wanted something lighter to read + have read several of Only_1_Truth's fics (esp l o v e Aces Grey 💜), so I dove in.
Ha ha ha: the joke is on me. I LOVED THIS STORY SO MUCH I WANT TO READ SEVERAL MORE PARTS IN THIS UNIVERSE! James living out in Skyfall taking in a kid who shows up on his doorstep reads realistically: he's perplexed, a little confused, wants to do right by this young human + their family, and without too much effort, finds real ways to connect with Q. Q is written equally + delightfully well: brilliant in many different ways, curious, compassionate, and so.damned.hungry to be seen + loved. Once the other characters arrive in the story I was so hooked I couldn't put it down.
There's poignancy, a lot of humour, many tender moments, bravery, and --eventually-- emotional growth for (I think) all involved. Beautiful story of a friendship between people of two different generations w/similar types of smarts + courage. So.well.done! How well done? It’s written by TWO creative humans: Truth + @roseforthethorns + they weave their work together seamlessly that I never.once.noticed. ENJOY Reader!
