Lily’s eyes struggled to open, still half shut with sleep. Sheets that weren’t hers (but nonetheless just as familiar) were tangled around her torso and sunlight streamed through the windows, lighting up the room. She’d gotten into bed last night with Kade but the bed was always empty save for her in the morning- she was used to it at this point. She stretched and rolled out of bed; Kade was probably out somewhere, as usual. Lily couldn’t remember when his house had started feeling like her own, but she realized she’d have to stop getting so used to being at Kade’s. She could hear faint noises from outside the room, indicating that the owner of the house was, indeed, still inside. “Kade,” she called out, getting out of the bed. She took off her shirt, heading towards the bathroom. “I’m going to take a shower, yeah? And then you can kick me out or whatever.” She didn’t really have to bother telling him. They went through the same old routine each time this happened, but there was something about the closure in him kicking her out that kept it from developing. It was clean. It was strictly business.
the light’s only starting to filter through the blinds when he gets up, muscles taut, aching slightly from the day prior. the clock reads an hour that’s far too early to be up, but he’s slipping the covers off and trudging to the bathroom, albeit half asleep and disoriented. it’s routine, to never sleep in past the people that frequent his sheets. with names blurred into faces, and nights of pleasure being the norm, he’s no stranger to icy cold water that pelts his back. cleaned up, he sits perched on a chair in the study, fingers flying across his keyboard to finish up the work that she had interrupted him on. on normal days, he would’ve been gone by now, leaving for the office early, but he decides to make today an exception. he’s halfway through the report when she calls, voice almost nonchalant in the way she says his name. he sighs, paperwork forgotten as he stands from his chair. it’s with measured steps that he approaches the bedroom, running water informing him of her whereabouts. the closet is opened and he’s sifting through the suits that hang from the racks to search for something for lily to wear. “she wouldn’t mind if i gave this to lily...”, he murmurs, fingers catching the light fabric of a dress. he takes it. “you have nothing clean to wear, do you?”, he says when the sound of water against tile subsides, now standing outside the bathroom, “i have clothes for you, take them.”
