In plot/lore tho, the merchant (and sulluvan too) are like the oil that keeps the clock working!!! The merchant knows (who knows how) that mochis role in that world is unfinished, so he has no right to take her out of it!! but at the same time...he needed to teach her a lesson not to fuck around and steal his bag LMFAO!! if it were almost anyone else, they would get got, but mochi needs to be alive to uhh.,..fulfill the prophecy or whatever.,....so he cant kill her (at least not yet. Maybe later if she fucks with him again) LOL!!!
