ANON I'M SORRY I TOOK SO LONG TO ANSWER THIS i'd hoped to have a fun little drawing to go with it, but!!! a few fun facts!

The Queen of Storms is the eighth Overseer, representing the element of Nightmare -- death, resignation, decay. She knows she is the least-favored Overseer, but takes delight in her public image being essentially the Grim Reaper.

She doesn't kill people. She only waits for them, at the end of everything -- her nexus point is a tomb inside the earth, many miles west of Langtree, in a different village that honors the Nightmare Queen. You do not need a song to enter it, but many will warn you against intruding if you are not dying or sickly. Because the Nightscape kills you slowly the deeper into the labyrinth you delve. Nothing alive can stay.

The Nightscape is deep down inside the earth, a veritable mausoleum filled with every soul that ever clambered down here. The Queen of Storms watches over them and ensures their unfinished business is done before they go.

The ghosts in Wandersong's plot -- I like to think -- wandered out of that spiritscape because the Nightmare Queen let them.

The Nightmare Queen doesn't want to end the world. She doesn't do anything to hasten its demise. But she knows she has to be the last Overseer to kill, and when the Hero comes for her, she will make sure the Hero's death is painless and swift. That fully and completely ends the world should it pass.

In Liminal Nights, something else takes over the Queen of Storms' body and she disappears, leaving the world unable to end or renew, decaying. That also means the other Overseers don't die, as well as some extra fuckery I haven't quite edited into the story just yet.

Also, she's a sheep in wolf's clothing -- or a wolf in sheep's clothing -- because of the King of Hearts and the Dream King. A dog and a cat. I like to think that since my King of Hearts is a shepherd dog, he watches over the Nightmare Queen, herding her, making sure she treats the humans well. She's a friendly sort, but very odd in general. She's terrifying when she wants to be.

What is the liminal nights au!! I need to know…

It isn't fully fleshed out yet but thanks for making me draw up all the major characters!!!!! I will give a synopsis of what I do have.

Firstly, full disclaimer: Liminal Nights began as a Wanderfell-based spinoff of Delphiswap. I wanted to make villains of the DS trio, but realized that wasn't the right direction for my story, and didn't want to intentionally or accidentally rip off artseniccatnip's AU. They're a good friend of mine and ultimately it was decided that this AU would have been much better off in an entirely different direction.

That aside, the new direction is basically: EVERYBODY IS FURRIES just kidding i do like drawing furries though so this is an very overseer-centric AU

Essentially, this AU is one in which Eya does not end the world, but she makes this decision at the very last minute right before the hero is about to kill Queen Chaos in Act 3. So she calls her angel in to intervene and prevent her from killing the Overseer, and also announces that the world no longer needs to end. This baffles everyone, but especially the protagonists - the hero is sequestered off elsewhere to keep watch over the Queen of Storms, while the bard and witch do not believe that Eya truly would change her mind that easily.

They forge onward to every other nexus point; they are met with confusion and disappointment when they cannot get the overseer songs or do the sidequests in each town. (The war between Rulle and Chaandesh somehow comes to a stalemate.) After just scarcely managing to get the song to reach the King of Hearts, he simply shrugs and says he doesn't feel like he is corrupting. The bard and witch return to their homes feeling disappointed - sure, the world isn't ending anymore, but... they didn't get a chance to save it.

It slowly becomes apparent that something is wrong.

The stars disappear completely. The sunlight begins to feel stagnant, and the moonlight is no longer reaches the earth. The breeze stills, the ocean grows calm, and time slows to a slog. Everyone grows anxious. Every single Overseer feels their connection to their element wavering.

Meanwhile, the hero stays in this mysterious, unheard-of village just southwest of Langtree. She stands guard at the Queen of Storms's nexus point, every day, but... she begins to doubt Eya's intentions. Why tell her to save the world, only to change her mind and tell her that she was going to end it all along, but then didn't? Why is she stuck here?

The sheep Overseer whispers to her, lulling her into a sense of security. She isn't a threat. She never was - the gentlest of all grim reapers, despite the rumors around her.

But something goes horrifically wrong. She chokes as she's talking to the Hero. Then her form grows dark - her teeth turn sharp - and she howls. Darkness overtakes the surrounding areas. A horde of nightmarish monsters overrun Langtree - quite literally painting the town red. The bard sees... so much carnage.

A calamitous cry of grief upsets the spiritual balance of the world entirely... and the bard sprouts animal-like features, evolving into an Overseer themself. Every previous Overseer is no longer one, now rendered mortal and relatively powerless. Various other figures in Wandersong also transform into Overseers due to equally upsetting circumstances.

The former Dream King is the first to notice as he falls from his throne and wakes to the remains of his village. Horrified by what he's seen, he rushes to the nearest Overseer. The King of Hearts is preparing to protect his own village on Ichor, but Dream King persuades him to come investigate whatever the Queen of Storms is doing. There has to be an explanation for all of this.

And... I haven't developed the plot much more beyond this, but it sure is fun thinking about these former overseers getting to not only live but help return their world to normal! If they can...
