The Mori household
Lin working late means Hinata finds herself with no choice but to take care of Shouta. It’d be easier to be angry if her little brother wasn’t worried. Meanwhile, Lin loses track of time after locking up the store for the night.
“When’s Mom coming back?”
“I don’t know.” Hinata tried not to glance at the clock. “She must be working late. We can eat with her tomorrow. It’s getting late. Let’s just eat.”
“But-”
“Can you just be quiet and eat.”
Shouta sighed, loud and miserable.
“What.”
Shouta narrowed his eyes.“Thought you told me to-” he pulled a face, “-be quiet.”
Hinata snorted. “I don’t sound like that.”
“Yeah you do,” Shouta grumbled.
Hinata watched him chase a meatball around his plate out of the corner of her eye.
“Hey.”
He didn’t look up at her. “What?”
“...Bet I can eat more meatballs than you.”
Shouta blinked. He grinned. “Oh you’re on!”
Oh Dear, I know you’re not having the best time...
“Ma’am, are you having those symptoms frequently? I would really like to have a closer look at this. Maybe you should visit the practice on monday...”
Next we have the Mori family, consisting of Lin, Hinata and Shouta!
H: "I wish we could go see it, in an actual cinema! Streaming just isn't the same...those zombies would look pretty scary in 3D!"
H: "Are you listening, Miko?"
M: "Did you feel that?"
H: "Feel what?"
S: "It's dad!"
H: "That isn't funny, Shouta."
S: "It's not a joke! I can see him!"
M: "Hinata..."
S: "I'm telling you, it's him!"
H: "Shouta! Stop it!"
Nobody slept well that night, tossing and turning in the grip of strange dreams of lightless watery depths, and of someone - or something - desperately trying to reach out.
Lin awoke with a start to find her bedroom inexplicably flooded. The disturbing dreams were already fading from her memory as she grabbed the mop and a bucket, evaporating like mist before the morning sun.
M: "Hi-chan, that's hilarious! I wish I could've seen it!"
H: "And then, she sort of flailed her arms like a windmill and landed in the water with a big splash!"
M: "See, this is why there's no way I'm getting on a surfboard! I just don't have the balance for it."
H: "It kind of looks like fun, but...yeah, me neither."
M: "By the way, I meant to ask...will you team up with me for the history project? Pretty please?"
H: "I thought you'd already teamed up with Kokei-san."
M: *sigh* "Ryuji-kun decided he wanted to do the project solo."
H: "More like not do it at all. Meanwhile, I was your fallback option in case he bailed, huh?"
M: "Hina-chan, you are never that!"
L: "Hello. Yes, this is Lin. How are you, Yoshiku-san?"
