Two years ago, I was like, “Finally, I’m going to be able to experience a World Cup up close,” and now that “it’s here,” the whole damn country is falling apart, and the government is trying to cover it up with “long live the World Cup spirit,” but come on, seriously, we can’t even get near the stadium if you don’t have a ticket—why? Because FIFA is one of the most corrupt organizations, damn it— not even the average person is going to be able to watch it on TV because only 32 of the more than 100 matches will be available for free (if you want to watch them all, you have to pay like 45 bucks). Seriously, football has gone from being “the sport of the poor” to a sport that only a select few can experience (at least in Mexico)
With a city falling apart, making it even harder for ordinary people to get around, and the government hiding us away as if we were the plague—not to mention that FIFA isn’t going to leave a single dollar in the country (something it did in the U.S. and Canada)—that World Cup atmosphere has stopped being something that really excites me, and personally, it’s now a letdown for me.
