I'm going into high school. I know I'll get eaten alive. I'm so worried of losing good friends because of different classes, and for some reason now every time I try to speak I get tongue tied and incredibly nervous, making every conversation awkward with friends. Help?

trust me, i’ve been there. literally last year.

most people here don’t know, but i’m going to be a sophomore this year, so i still have a lot to learn, but here’s what i’ve got.

i had the same fear of losing friends, but, luckily, i was able to keep in touch and hang out with most of them. i didn’t have classes with my four closest friends and we’re all still super close. just try your best to see them and, most importantly, make an effort to talk to/hang out with them! if not, they might think you’re trying to drop them or something.

being nervous was also a problem i had, mainly in middle school. everyone’s different, but what really helped me was becoming more confident with myself. i stopped worrying so much about what the next words coming out of my mouth would be and became much more comfortable with myself.

that being said, you shouldn’t just go around shouting slurs and being offensive, but slowly start to connect with people you feel comfortable with. talk to them about similar interests, such as a TV show, or a book! you can go from there. sometimes a small smile can change everything.
