One thing that was a breathe of fresh air visiting #Lincolnbeach after @reggieart and the Lincoln Beach cleanup volunteers was how friendly everyone was. One of the worst things about #quarantine is that when you do leave the house everyone is so nasty. Fighting and killing over face masks and distance. So depraved of human interaction they provoke violent confrontations just to feel something. Pulling out their phones videotaping each other if they catch a stare they don't like. So it was nice to see the hard work invested in the area was met with the same kindness it was intended with. Latino men walking up to Reggie thanking him for clearing the place out with (drunken) tears in their eyes. Everyone so polite and smiling. It was like being hidden away from all the unnecessary clashes we see everyday. I visited my good friend @reggieart at the historic #Lincolnbeach location on #LakePontchartrain in #neworleans east and it was quite an experience to enjoy the lake in such a way. It was like a little hidden magical village or something. It was great energy to help me fight the apathy and exhausting I've been feeling these dog days of #purplesummer. It was one thing to hear Reggie's passion for his efforts to clean the site, but to also see the effect that it has on the people who frequent there made it so much more real. I really hope the community is able to continue the development and the city invests in turning the historic black beach site into a lakefront park.
