New adventures for a beautiful summer night. Enjoying my arc of Linda Castillo's A Gathering of Secrets and loving it so far. I haven't read a good Amish mystery for a long time and forgot how much I liked the mix of old ways and modern problems. I enjoy this series! It gets a little dark sometimes. But I'm fascinated by the Amish setting and the main character, Chief of Police Kate Burkholder, who left the Amish but now protects (and investigates) the community. I'm fascinated with anything connected to religious communities. Actually, that reminds me, on the YA side, Laura Bickle had one of the freshest takes on vampires and the Amish--yes, seriously--and it was so good. THE HALLOWED ONES. It's on my keeper shelf. First time reading Linda Castillo. The crime story was pretty good. I really had no idea who did It till the very end, which is always much appreciated. Kate is a different kind of law enforcement officer for sure.
