Meme #1: For my social meme I made this to show Trumps ignorance towards COVID-19, as I’m sure many of us have seen he continues to call it the “China Virus.” Although it’s true that it started in China, it is now a world wide crisis not just a Chinese crisis. In this meme China is the cat who is slightly confused and displeased. The woman holding back the first woman (Donald Trump in this case) represents the US Government as they are trying to calm him down and hold him back.
Meme #2: For the class meme I used something that we saw very recently which was the YouTube video that discussed why memes are considered art. In that video the YouTuber shared a definition by Leo Tolstoy about the activity of art, which I found to be hilariously accurate to what memes are. In this meme the top image represents a basic and boring statement, in the bottom image we see a fancy Winnie the Pooh making a fancy statement, which has the same meaning as the top one. So basic vs. classy ways to say you like memes.
Meme #3: For my detournement gif I decided to use Katsushika Hokusai's famous art work The Great Wave Off Kanagawa, but through the waves I placed garbage floating around. This is in reference to the Pacific Garbage Patch (which is close to Kanagawa) that has hurt a lot of the sea life, the garbage seen in the waves is actual garbage found in the PGP today.
