Pakistan's military has shot down an Indian spy drone, identified as a Heron-1 UAV quadcopter, along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Manawar Sector of Bhimber, according to multiple Pakistani sources. The drone was attempting to conduct surveillance and violated Pakistani airspace.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following a recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Indian-controlled Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 people. Pakistan's defense minister had previously warned of an imminent Indian attack, suggesting that Pakistan might consider using its nuclear arsenal in response to existential threats.
The Indian Army reported unprovoked small arms fire from Pakistan along the LoC overnight, to which it responded measuredly. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed concern over the escalating tensions and urged both nations to exercise restraint and pursue dialogue. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has condemned terrorism and offered cooperation in any neutral investigation into the Pahalgam incident.
