9 Most Alcohol-Crazy Yokai (Many You’ve Never Heard Of) by Linfamy
I've been watching this fun YouTube channel about Japan's history called Linfamy (I think) and I remembered a very funny scene from Inuyasha that was actually accurate which makes it more hilarious 🤣:
In the scene, after having an encounter with Kikyo, Miroku questions Inuyasha about who is he going to chase, Kagome or Kikyo, and Inuyasha replies:
To which Miroku agrees on "Why to make one of them unhappy when he can make happy both of them" 🤣 (to the anger of Kagome who is listening everything) and rightly punish Inuyasha with her "osuwari" )
Now to what I learned: is that Inuyasha wasn't historically wrong,
The story takes place in the Sengoku, the era that saw the rise of the samurai taking control of (and destroying) everything, right after the Heian era in which it was very common for the noble class to be polygamous (for the men obviously, women couldn't have more than a husband, though it was expected of them to cheat, they didn't have to be caught, but it was expected)
Men could have more than a wife (rarely more than 3) and also could cheat, openly. And this practice went on after the Heian era until the Meiji era (that's when Rurouni Kenshin takes place, with the fall of the samurai class).
And social mobility was almost none existent, the only way was through marriage (in which the women's family had the money), or by having custody of a child from a higher ranking family.
Since Inuyasha's mom had him with a Yokai, and she lived in a really fancy place and wore fancy clothes, that'll make her (and Inuyasha) noble born. That'll make Inuyasha part of the 1% of the time 🤣 (I wonder what his last name is, what if he is a Taira, Minamoto, Fujiwara?)
All of this to say that yes, Inuyasha could have had 2 wives, he could make both of them happy 🤣
If you need to know stuff about ancient Japan 🗾 Linfamy is your guy.
For day 11 I chose Linfamy. Again a YouTuber, but this one talk about Japan, his history, his myths and his culture through the ages.
I wanted to draw him as a samurai but in the end he looks more like a ninja....
