In grammar, gender refers to the determination of female and male castes in different noun words. That is, when a name, person, thing or place is traced to its caste, then gender is present there. For example – boy and girl have boy (masculine), girl (feminine).

There are two types of gender (Ling) in the Hindi language.
1. Masculine (पुल्लिंग) - When the male caste is known from the noun words used in the sentence, then it is called masculine.
2. Feminine (स्त्रीलिंग) - Sentences in which the feminine caste is known from the noun words, they are feminine.
According to the Sanskrit language, apart from the above, all other non-living noun words are kept in the category of Napusling (नपुसलिंग).
