Polish name of september. From wrzos ([ling] heather), because in this month it began to grow on the meadows. From Proto-Slavic *versъ.
Today in Ukrainian (вересень [véresen’]) and Belarusian (верасень [vérasen’]) this word is still used. In almost all other Slavic languages a form of ‘september’ is now used and replaced their original word , e.g. Russian сентрябрь [sentjábr’] - dated вересень [véresen’].
