Sapphie Braves The Heat In California

Sapphie journeyed via car from San Francisco (Lily’s home) to Los Angeles (where Lily’s girlfriend lives) last weekend just in time for a massive heat wave. While she was there she visited UCLA (and forgot to take pictures), walked around a lot, and helped Lily with some cooking.

Sapphie takes a break from the heat with some colorful friends in the produce section.

Sapphie finds the best street to walk down.

(Sapphie was sure to wear sunscreen and hydrate.)

Mostly, Sapphie hung out in Lily’s girlfriend’s apartment and watched Netflix, in true Sapphic fashion.

On to the next adventure!

A question for your poetic expertise: what do you think of the recent "bredlik" meme?

they tuch my harteseriously, as a certified pet-lover, poet, and specialist in seventeenth-century british literature, this meme was pratically made for me. it combines three of my great loves: animals, poetry, and pseudo-middle english. i particularly enjoy this discussion and this discussion on the conventions of the bredlik form, and this particular poem may be my favorite. it almost made me cry last night. this poem is also pretty amazing. i’m considering making my students experiment with the form to help them get a handle on meter.

Re: fanfiction, I actually disagree that Sanvers lend themselves well to AUs. I feel like their characters and traits are so tied to their canon universe, it's difficult to take them out of it while maintaining their core personalities and dynamic. Have you seen it done well/attempted it with any success?

I actually agree about them working so well in canon verse that you almost don’t need AUs I’m just always a slut for AUs. But like because of this I think for sanvers specifically I’ve been preferring canon-divergence rather than full on AUs but that’s mostly because there’s not a lot of AUs for them (example would be time traveler maggie AU where everything is basically the same but maggie is a time traveler) Usually I can’t read canonverse fanfiction, but I’ve read a lot and really enjoyed a lot for sanvers, which is surprising for me!

but I’ve read quite a few really good AUs for them as well. Names are escaping me right now, but there’s one where Maggie has a kid and Alex is her kid’s teacher (and I’m not usually a fan of kid fics but it’s really good), I’ve read a couple of really good college AUs, and this pen pals AU feat. soldier Maggie.

idk I just think it’s weird that there’s not a whole lot of AUs for them but there’s a lot of situations they could work really well together in

man if I had the time I would write all the AUs for them, but alas....
