Zelda muttered something that sounded vaguely like “conductivity”, then snapped her head back in his direction to ask, “You were struck by lightning?” as if the pieces had only just fallen into place.
“Well, yes— I mean, no, not really. Well, not this time. I was just lucky enough that I dropped the traveler’s sword while fixing a strap and when I turned to get it, lightning was already striking.”
She was frowning at him.
“‘Not this time’?” she asked.
“It’s a long and complicated story,” he defended, but she didn’t look convinced. “Okay, not that complicated-“
“Link!”
He threw his hands up in defense, leaning slightly away from her, and said, “It was a puzzle for a shrine!”
“Getting struck by lightning?”
“Well, not really. Blame the ancient Sheikah and their cryptic riddles.”
“I find it a little hard to believe that any riddle could be interpreted to mean please strike yourself with a powerful force of nature.”
