The battlefield was a cacophony of clashing blades, the air thick with the scent of blood and sweat. The ground beneath Jade's feet was littered with the bodies of fallen warriors, their lifeless eyes staring up at the stormy sky. She had been fighting for what felt like hours, her muscles burning with the effort, but there was no time for rest. The battle was far from over.

Jade, the beautiful warrior of Edenia, spun her staff in a wide arc, the weapon slicing through the air with a deadly hiss. Her emerald eyes were sharp, focused on the enemies that surrounded her. They came at her from all sides, a relentless tide of soldiers driven by the dark magic of the Netherrealm. Their faces were twisted into masks of rage, their bodies consumed by the corruption that festered within them.

But Jade was not one to be easily overwhelmed. She had been trained by the best, her skills honed to perfection through years of battle. Her staff connected with the skull of an approaching enemy, the force of the blow sending him crumpling to the ground. She didn’t pause to admire her handiwork—another foe was already upon her, a sword raised high to strike.

With a fluid motion, Jade dodged the attack, her body moving with the grace of a dancer. She struck out with her staff, the weapon connecting with the man’s ribs with a sickening crunch. He fell to the ground, writhing in pain, but Jade didn’t have time to finish him off. Another wave of enemies was approaching, their numbers seemingly endless.

As she fought, Jade's mind was a whirlwind of thoughts, each one a sharp contrast to the other. She was a warrior, trained to focus on the battle, but there was something else gnawing at the edges of her mind—something darker. This battle wasn’t just about survival; it was about loyalty, about the choices she had made and the people she had chosen to align herself with.

Among the chaos of battle, she caught sight of familiar faces—those of her allies, her friends. Yagen raises his hands in a placating gesture despite the scores of still and unconscious people--living, breathing people! Not bodies!--sprawled on the ground around him. Who knew that the hospital would be renting out one of its unused rec rooms for a charity fundraiser today? Or that one of its members would mistake his large bottle of very orange, Very Experimental Drug as fruit juice for the public punch bowl? Maybe vastly improving the flavor had contributed to the misunderstanding, but didn’t anyone find a large unlabeled container of liquid in a hospital corridor suspicious at all?!

Seriously.

‘Alright, so it’s my fault they’re unconscious, but they’re not dead.’

‘Ah, if you came for the fundraiser party, their donation box is over there...’ he points to the other end of the room as he slowly edges towards the exit.
