Since I'm awake anyway, I thought it would be fun to make a sort of rec list? Never made one before but I love them, so I thought I'd take a crack at it. This will be a double list, Simon/Grace to start and then Grace/Rocky to finish off. I'm a versatile man, I can appreciate all the wonders of how one Ryland Grace gets fucked

Been reading a lot of BloodyMary fics the past couple days and loving it. What a beautiful crossover! Gorgeous idea! We're gonna start with some ongoing fics I'm subscribed to right now, the fics I squee about when I get an email about a new chapter.

Starting off with a merman twist on the Mutated!Simon trope! Very very tasty gore descriptions for those into body horror, visceral descriptions of fish cancer (author's words, not mine) and blood. It's a slower burn in developing Simon's character and his and Grace's relationship, but it's a comfortable, interesting burn. Very excited to see where this one goes!

The classic, "Eridians/Grace find Simon out in space/on a blood moon and take him in, realise he's like a traumatised dog who alternates between biting you and cowering in a corner," idea! Also has "Simon hurts Grace in self defence/in a panic and Rocky wants to throw him out for the offense" trope, which I love. Rocky cares a lot about Grace in this one, very very concerned about his wellbeing, and Simon is Not having a great time to start out. Very nice tension and internal conflict for the boys, bed sharing and UST out the wazoo. Author also has funny author's notes that make me giggle.

Oof. Danced a little in my bed when I saw the subscription email for this one come in yesterday! Just like the previous, this one explores Simon getting saved by Eridians and put into Grace's terrarium biosphere. Also has Simon taking one look at Grace and thinking he's an angel, but then he gets aggressive out of fear. A lot of good emotion in this one, Simon struggling to believe he's actually alive and protective Adrian and Rocky when he lashes out at Grace. Grace so very desperately just wants a hug.

Now... This is currently my top trans!Grace fic in the whole fandom. For me trans!character fics at best squick me out, or at worst make me dysphoric as hell. This one though? Feels real, grounded. Grace being trans isn't touched upon much in the first fic but it becomes very relevant in the sequel. An interesting exploration of cultural differences and identity, homophobia being more prominent in the second fic but in a way that feels real and true to the culture Simon is from. Highly recommend for hot hate sex and for character exploration!

simon thinks hes winning at 3d chess and grace is still trying to put the connect four board together
so it's hard to top that XD Though I'll try. Simon gets rescued onto the Hail Mary, and thinks the saving and nice treatment is all a trick and is trying to outsmart Grace, while Grace is just happy to have saved another human being and hopes they can at least be cordial. Simon is an absolute bitch in this, understandably, and it's so interesting to see his thought process contrasted to how Grace acts and thinks and makes decisions. Rocky is snarky and protective and emotional and I love it.

A steady, grounded approach to the medical and emotional bits. Grace cares so much about everyone and everything that he might just lose it.

Here comes the big boy. The real chonker! Its dense and introspective prose gives you something to chew on, something to think about. It's a slower read and doesn't rush thoughts or relationships. I really enjoy the scientific descriptions and though I can't say how accurate they are, they don't break verisimilitude for me. The author is infectiously passionate about this story and I wait eagerly for the coming chapters.
