Okay, but the thing is, I don’t see Varian as a Leafman warrior. I see him as a humanoid Leaman-style fairy, but he’s Nim’s apprentice. So I gave him a robe similar to Nim’s and a mushroom cap!

I had the same assumption actually! I assumed she was in hear early 20s based on the fact that she’s employed in the castle and was given a chance to be handmaid to the princess. And more than that she was a replacement handmaid specifically selected by Rapunzel and Punz doesn’t strike me as someone who would want to employ a teenager to do stuff like... her laundry and cleaning. She lost her own teen years to doing all the housework for an authority figure. I don’t think she’d be comfortable with asking a teen to do that for her. 

But Faith’s one of those many characters where it’s really up to viewer interpretation. If someone sees a teenager when they look at faith they aren’t WRONG if we never got an actual idea of her age. 

It also doesn’t help that aside from “ha ha she’s old” characters, the show was not very good at depicting women of different ages. She could be 35 and we’d never know because pretty women weren’t allowed to have wrinkles or grey hair.

If it makes you feel any better, the events in the comics aren’t particularly canon, or should be taken with a grain of salt. But they don’t want us to forget about Zhan Tiri. They’ve been reminding us of his existence and reminding us that he’s a threat. They’re keeping him on our radar, and I personally believe that’s because he’s going to be a huge deal.
