HOW TO DEPOT YOUR LIPSTICKS

I’ll admit it: I’m a lipstick hoarder. I don’t exactly remember the moment where I realized that I prefer to emphasize my lips over my eyes, but I do know that was the moment my lipstick collection surpassed my eyeshadow collection two to one. I always justified my expensive lipstick habit by saying I’m a makeup artist and I need the lipstick for my kit, but let’s be real: it’s alllll for me. All joking aside, I have my personal stash of lipsticks, and then my lipsticks specifically for my kit. For my kit lipsticks, it just got to be too messy and confusing to have a bunch of loose lipsticks laying around in my Zuca bag, so I decided it was time to condense and consolidate my kit lipsticks. This is also super helpful if you have a ton of lipsticks and want to be a bit better organized. So here is what you need:

Any lipstick of your choosing (I’m using THIS one in this tutorial)

A metal spoon or something that you can melt the lipstick in (I’m using a measuring spoon from Target)

A metal spatula

A candle and a lighter

Not pictured: a container for your melted lipstick

  STEP ONE:

Chop off your lipstick and place into the metal spoon for melting. Once the top bullet is off, use the metal spatula to scoop out the remainder of the lipstick from its container.

 STEP TWO:

Light your candle and place the metal spoon over the flame. Using the spatula, stir the lipstick in the metal spoon until it is melted completely.

STEP THREE:

Once the lipstick is melted, remove from the flame and immediately pour into your *sanitized* container. I always make sure to wipe down my containers with rubbing alcohol before pouring the lipstick into it. Try to scrape out as much of the lipstick as you can. Using a rubber spatula will help get all the product out.

STEP FOUR:

You could totally do this step before melting down your lipstick, but I always like to hold the lipstick container above the flame so I can peel off the lipstick label on the bottom of the container. By putting it over the flame, the glue gets tacky and can be stuck on the bottom of your melted lipstick container.

 And that’s it! Once you pour the melted lipstick into its new container, let it cool or else when you try to move it around to get a good picture of your melted lipstick, it’ll shift and won’t look as neat as seen above. But whatever, you get the general effect! I like going to Michael’s to get those little stackable acrylic jars in the jewelry section- I think it costs like $9 for 6 stacks of 6 jars. A lot cheaper than buying from most makeup supply stores!
