LIRA 3 QUESTION 2

   Based on the short story that I have listened to, The Last Leaf by O’Henry, the characters in the story that I sympathize with were Sue and Mr. Bareman. Sue had to bear with Jonesey’s attitude after she got this sickness which had killed many people, pneumonia. First, the doctor told Sue that Jonesey had 10 to 1 chance to live but she had made up her mind to stay sick. She refused to eat the chicken soup hat Sue had cooked for her and chose to count down the leaves on the vine through her window across their building. She keeps on bragging to Sue that she would die when the last leaf falls from the vine. Apart from that, Sue had to work hard on getting her drawing done and hand it in to the magazine company so that she could earn some money to buy food and wine for the two of them. Lastly, Mr. Bareman had risked his life so that Jonesey would stop her nonsense beliefs of dying then the last leaf falls.

LIRA3 QUESTION 2

Based on the short story “The Last Leaf”, i emphatize and symphatize Johnsy the most. She suffered pneumonia and already give up on life. The disease will kill her anytime. Johnsy laid on her bed as it was the only thing she can do. She was depending her life on the leaves of the tree outside her house. For her, when the last leaf fall, she will go. I emphatize her because i know she was dying because of the disease and that was very hard for her to handle. She also wanted to paint The Bay of Naples in Italy but the disease turn out to be the obstacle for her to achieve the dream.She also began to act strangely because of the disease. If i was her, i will act like her too because my confidence to stay alive will become low.

Question 2

I symphatize Johnsy because she was living in sorrow and despair due to pneumonia. The disease made her very weak and sick that it made her mind full with strange ideas. For instance, she believed that her life would be over once the last leaf fall from the tree. I empathize her because i know that what she has been going through is too much for her to handle. On top of that, she wanted to paint the Bay of Naples in Italy someday but the disease crushes her dream just like that. She kept counting the number of leaf left on the tree because she has lost hope and faith in furthering life. She was just waiting for the time for her to die without taking any alternative to get better.
