The Dutch Star Con 4 Q & A Allo Allo: Gorden Kaye and Guy Siner (2008)
In 2008 it was held a special Q & A with Gorden Kaye and Guy Siner, actors from the sitcom 'Allo 'Allo!(1982-1992), who would answer questions from the audience as their characters René Artois and Hubert Gruber from the series.
One question made during the Q & A was about "why did Gruber marry Helga" in the series, something that is show in the last episode of 'Allo 'Allo in the time skip of what happens to the character after the World War II.
Important to have in mind that Gruber was entirely throughout all the series portrayed as an open gay man, who is said to be one of the first gay men to appear on a british sitcom in the 80's (Source: The Return of 'Allo 'Allo![2007], a documentary and extra episode for fans of the series after it's end in 1992). Other detail about Gruber is that he was constantly portrayed as not having any romantic or sexual interest of women at all, many fans themselves have been confused why would Gruber marry Helga, and have with her multiple children.
Guy Siner when asked about this and why would Gruber, his character, marry Helga, Siner replies in a quick deadpan "Money.", implying that their whole relationship was only around her money after the war's end.
