A Tale of Champions ❤️💙🤍

This is a little league team that we sponsor. Last year they were underdogs. At one point they had a 25-game losing streak. So many teammates walked away to other teams that they thought were better. The boys who stayed, like my grandson, Luka, didn’t give up. They stuck it out, showed up to three-hour long practices three nights a week, practiced all winter and kept fighting without complaining.

Now they are Champions!🏆 Winning first championship and a 4-0 shut out.

Yesterday was an important day for me. My son played his first-ever little league baseball game. This experience was new to me as I had never been part of a little league community. As I spent part of my day at East Austin’s Mabson field for the Greater East Austin Youth Association opening day, I was struck by the diversity of children, parents, and fans at an extremely well-attended event.

The images included showing a mother comforting her son after striking out in his first turn at bat, later to also be comforted by another mother of Hispanic background. To me, it was a such tender and loving act of support. Without a doubt this event made me recall Martin Luther King's I have a dream speech, “I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.” Austin Post #2

Little league team puts cotton in their black teammate’s hair on live TV A Davenport, Iowa, little league team was seen on national TV putting cotton in their black teammate’s hair. Writer for BSO, Robert Littal, recently reported that a black child was the victim of a racist hazing incident which was shown on live TV during the Little League World Series and was promoted by ESPN. The BSO article reported that ESPN covered the event as, “kids being kids” and that it was a sort of hazing ritual for the black child to go through. “Twitter Wants Answers From the Little League and @ESPN on Why They Promoted a Black Child Having Cotton Put on His Head Like a Pet By His Teammates and Coaches During Little League World Series Coverage. Littal reported that the coaches also failed to take action in the incident and may have even participated.
