i the anger i am feeling cannot be described
part of me feels so bad about being angry because i know her beliefs come from an inherently good place? but she’s so deeply prejudiced against anyone who doesn’t share them that she literally cannot share a space with them without delving into a screaming fit?
like she couldn’t fathom how a deal at mcd’s that was literally like ‘spend like $3 for an adult menu item and we will feed your kids no matter HOW MANY kids those are’ was like a boon for a working poor family? like a single mother who works her ass off at three jobs and barely makes her ends meet being able to rouse the kids for a breakfast at 8-9am and be able to do it together as a family? like i was so happy to see that, because there are parents i know who only have an hour in the morning to see their kids sometimes and that would mean the world to them, because a meal together is hard to come by due to expenses? she thought it was better for them to literally starve -- her actual words -- than to eat ‘non-organic food and meat.’
does she not realize there are people who literally order a dollar menu fry or something at fast food places just so they can get the receipt that offers them a free burger for a survey? how they beg for friends to give them receipts for the same, so they can have consistent meals through the week? i mentor kids who regularly eat this way, and travel from place to place through the week to get it when they won’t be thrown out for ‘abusing coupons.’ that’s why all of us regularly bring in $20-$30 worth of food for every meeting, to make sure our kids who have food instability -- the majority of them -- can eat a breakfast and lunch that’s healthy and have food they can carry with them or bring home. >:(
