Today is the first day in New Orleans that I am taking off to relax and recuperate. 5 straight days of setting up and sharing jewels on Decatur and Frenchmen St in the French Quarter. 14 hours a day for the last three days. Needless to say, the streets of NOLA have been receiving the light energy from the Little Temples collection so well. Thank you to everyone who has connected with the stone love these past few days. One of my absolute favorites from the new @delevodesigns 'Little Temples' collection~ Ammolite and this stunning star rutile Quartz in brushed satin silver and 24k gold. Ammolite, as a direct conduit of the energetics of golden mean spiral, is a sacred gemstone which we can work with for our own personal awakening and for the evolutionary consciousness of the planet. This crystal awakens our awareness of the evolutionary shift in consciousness that is happening around the world as we come to the end of many cycles of creation. Rutilated quartz is reputed to be an energizing stone that helps get energy moving on all levels. Intuitive sources say that it assists with mental focus. Little Temple~ moonstone, labrodorite and Swedish blue. I fell in love with the Swedish blue this year at the Tucson gem show, the first time I've ever encountered it. So we agree, yes? It's lovely. But what is it? Well, I'll tell you what its not: a gem. Or a mineral. It's not glass, either, though it does look a bit glass-like in person. It's called Swedish Blue, and it is ....drumroll...slag. Yeah, that's right : iron ore slag. Slag is the byproduct of smelting metal ores. Essentially these are the "impurities" that were removed from metals like copper, aluminum, and iron. Over time, this slag (which was typically just dumped as waste) changed into a glasslike substance. These particular cabs are called Swedish Blue because they come from a small town in Sweden where the slag was dumped in the 16th and 17th centuries. Fascinating, no?
