It's perfect okay. Noct has equal if not more levels of derangedness as Prince Eric. Ravus is King Triton. I fully intend to make Prompto be Flounder but like. As a human? It just feels right. Ignis and Gladio are DEFINITELY that old guy and the dog. Most importantly the pining. The angst. The fact that to communicate they could write in that notebook that they have in canon. I REST MY CASE

It's shocking just how little I've actually done today. FFXV soulmate fic be upon ye and YES this is the reason I made that post that got so many notes a while back. @sailforvalinor

Noctis didn’t really realize the significance of his soulmate mark until long after he knew who it was.

He’d been in Tenebrae with Luna. Eight years old, making crowns out of sylleblossoms. Only for him to realize— “Hey, I know this flower!”

He’d turned his hand over to show Luna the dark blue mark etched into his lower forearm—the same flowers scattered before them. “Dad says it’s my soulmark, and that when I meet someone with the same one, it means I’ll be with them forever.”

Luna had looked startled—which he’d thought was weird. After all, she knew lots more than he did. Shouldn’t she understand soulmarks?

As if in answer to his confusion, she’d wordlessly turned over her own wrist, to show the matching mark. And then smiled, eyes knowing, like they always were.

At the time, Noctis hadn’t been able to think of anything better. Luna was amazing—why wouldn’t he want to be with her forever?

And then, everything fell apart. He and his dad barely escaped Tenebrae with their lives, and Luna? She was still there. Without him.

That wasn’t how soulmates were supposed to work.

Noctis had clung to the idea, fiercely, that this meant he’d see her again. That she would have to be okay, because they were supposed to be together forever. She couldn’t leave without him.

Knowing she was alive, thanks to Umbra, helped. As did the letters they exchanged. Noctis just had to wait until they could be together.

As he grew up and learned more about soulmates, he began to see the flaws in his logic. Some soulmates died far too soon after meeting. Rarely, if ever, did they die at the same time.

There would always be one left behind.

But that wasn’t going to be the way things were with him and Luna. He knew it was childish, and he didn’t tell anyone else. But forever meant forever, and he wasn’t breaking that promise. No matter how long it took to get there.
