-(n) A sudden burst of emotion.
The wind danced around the gathered groups of people, some drew their coats closer to their bodies whilst others stepped closer to their partners or friends. Although it was a chilly winter's night, no one minded much due to the low buzz of excitement.
Everyone was waiting in anticipation for 10 o'clock which was according to Mr. Sanford, the man who set all of this up, the time when the night was the clearest with no clouds to obstruct their view.
The buzzing of the crowd increased as time ticked on. Only 15 minutes and the show was due to start.
Turning to his left Matthew caught his boyfriend's hand and entwined it trying to gain Martyn's attention. The moment Matthew's hand touched Martyn's, he had looked down to meet Matthew's green eyes tinted with the flecks of blue that he loved so much.
"Let's move to a less crowded spot," Matthew suggested although Martyn could hardly understand the words his boyfriend said, he guessed what Matthew wanted and slowly turned around looking for a spot which wasn't so crowded with people. Finally, his honey brown eyes found the perfect spot and Martyn gently tightened his grip on Matthew making sure the two wouldn't get separated and lead them over to the spot on the hill where fewer people were gathered.
"Thanks, it was getting a little stuffy in there," Matthew announced as the two stopped and turned around, they hadn't travelled far, but it was far enough for the people too look small where they stood. For once making Matthew feel taller than he actually was.
"Thanks for coming with me tonight," Martyn said, his voice low. Matthew glanced up in time to see the other man bring his scarf closer to his neck to hide the blush which was crawling up his throat.
"Of course, I love going places as long as I'm with you," Matthew replied. At the sight of the elder man embarrassed and shy put a slight quirk in his mouth. It wasn't a very usual sight to see Martyn show anything other than a stern and serious expression, so to be able to see this new side of him. Something much softer and filled with love, it sent a warm fluttering feeling into his chest. Martyn turned slightly and glanced down at Matthew, a smile drawn on his lips and his eyes swirling with the emotions he felt for Matthew, but before he could say anything everyone around them began counting down drawing his attention.
Matthew moved closer to Martyn and looked up as he felt Martyn's fingers drum against their clasped hands.
He was pretty excited about this, Matthew noted with amusement, saying yes to this was probably the best thing he had done in a while. Especially if he was able to see Martyn's excitement and joy. Lately things had been pretty stressful what with work and the move. So if anything, Martyn needed this, a moment where the two could be themselves and relax without a worry in the world. Perhaps they both did.
Cheering filled the air as something shot into the sky and just above them exploded into a mesmerising pattern of lights.
The fireworks had started.
Martyn's eyes were fixated on the sky above them taking in the breathtaking sight of the fireworks, letting Matthew take a good look at the man beside him.
The fireworks illuminated the sky, sending a variety of lights over the duo. Matthew could see, in detail, Martyn's chiselled jawline, his slightly upturned nose, and the stubble on his unshaven face threatening to become a beard. He could see every single thing about Martyn which made him completely gorgeous.
He was the most beautiful thing that Matthew had ever seen.
And dios mio, was he falling fast for Martyn. He had appeared out of no where and quickly changed Matthew's life, finally giving him something to live for, someone to love.
As if feeling his gaze, Martyn glanced down— his eyes meeting with Matthew’s. His eyebrows raised questionably with a silent question 'are you okay?'
For a second, his heart missed a beat. He was beautiful.
Martyns usual honey brown eyes were dancing a duet with joy and happiness. The lights of the fireworks giving his eyes that extra swirl of blues and purples. His jelled hair had fallen out of it's perfect shape slightly, some hairs falling into his eyes.
A hand cupped Matthew's face as Martyn leaned closer, his face now full of concern. Oh yeah, Matthew had been silent for a while now just staring at Martyn.
"Are you okay? If its too loud we can go hom-"
Matthew cut his boyfriend off by reaching up and wrapping his arms around the taller man, bringing his head down and pressing their lips together. To begin with Martyn had frozen, startled by the suddenness, but quickly he melted into the kiss and placed his hands on Matthew's waist bringing the younger man closer to his body. The two melding into one. The kiss, sent sparks where the two were touching, chills running down their spines. Fireworks exploded as Martyn deepened the kiss, and not just figuratively.
Finally the two pulled apart, breathing heavily from the lack of air. Martyn chuckled and smiled as he leant his forehead against Martyn's, their noses touching in an Eskimo kiss. Matthew smiled and let out a breathless laugh before whispering;
