Beast? Yeah, right.
So, there I was: brushing my fingers through my hair, reminiscing on how clean I was weeks ago, when I heard that the littluns started spreading word of something falling from the sky. They said it landed on the mountain, but no one knew what it was. So many of the littluns feared the mysterious figure, so as chief of the island, I had to investigate it.
They are suggesting that there is a monster on the island—a “beastie,” they call it—but I do not agree. I mean, logically, whatever beast the littluns described is most likely fictitious. The only possible explanation for what they saw is some kind of animal, like a bear or something of the sort. Perhaps it is another young boy finally approaching the rest of us. But a beast? I mean, what kind of beast could they be referring to? I think the effects of the island are starting to bleed into the boys’ psyches.
I feel empathetic towards them. We were all with our families mere days ago, enjoying life as it was; then we were all stripped of such luxury. We are now isolated on a random island and have no way of getting out. It is tragic, our predicament. Even so, I am afraid of who we will become. Afraid of what we will become. Pure, innocent prepubescent boys met with a tragic end as we all go utterly mad on this rock.
