Old song writers used to have a special technique the used to write songs. They did have computers or any intricate way to copy and paste lyrics – they use a pen and paper to write things down. When it didn’t make sense, they simply erased whatever was started and began again with a fresh sheet of paper. Something about writing it down with your hand gave it an authenticity that cannot be had when punching words into a keyboard. Another nice thing about not having technology was that there was less access to other people’s work. Songs written in this era were truly original, since outside influences were not as felt in writing. These days, a DJ demo for a new product doesn’t try to please those who are looking for something outside of the box; they seem to appeal to those who know what they are looking for in a product. You might see a bit of button pressing going on – but if that is the case, then there will be little in the way of scratching. The same goes from scratchers who don’t make use of their MIDI controllers as well.
