cloud is such a pretty boy lmao. the devs were like... what if we maximized his pretty boy stat
now that I'm playing the original 1997 game, one thing I appreciate about remake is how they strike the balance of, "cloud is only projecting an image of Coolness but he's actually a dork inside, but also him actually caring for people and trying his best circles back around to making him Actually Cool"
of course in the original game, they did not have voice acting or hi-fidelity models and animation, and cloud's personality is something you unravel slowly. but I really like remake's direction of just making it more obvious that There's Something Wrong With Cloud. he's putting up a front. he has more headaches, more flashbacks, more moments of him just not being all there. not so put together as he tries to act. it's very endearing
also now that I've gone through the nibelheim flashback in the 1997 version, I am sooooo excited to see this in rebirth when I get there. the flashback was sooooo fun to go through. I like how barret would interject at some points, or how tifa kept asking cloud if he really did this or that. cloud asking (??) other members of the team if they were okay like he suddenly became an extrovert. the townspeople did and didn't like him! the one guy who called him names but the text color was muted...... the sequence with his mom........... :(
I think it's kinda interesting how in the classic, this makes sense. like yeah cloud sometimes says weird things and has killer migraines, but for the most part, he's quite put together and competent and gets the job done, even actually does leader-like things, all things considered
remake cloud though? at least from what I remember, I feel like they kinda upped his mental illness by five thousand. remake cloud can kick ass but he also seems more fragile to me...
okay yeah if I was 13 years old and saw this in 1997, I would definitely think cloud strife is the coolest character ever
omg I just realized I skipped a whole section of wall market while playing the classic............................ okay it doesn't matter in the long run and the only interesting part there (for me) that I missed was the part about president shinra talking about the promised land so. whateverrr
sorry it turns out I really am not a purist when it comes to media consumption. and that's because my entry point to ff7 were remake and... ever crisis.... so I'm pretty sure some people will say that I'm not experiencing sephiroth's character the "correct" way and like. yeah. I acknowledge that. that's fine
anyway I don't want to start rebirth yet so. classic it is.
I'm having fun with this game btw. and I am so so fond of these two again
