Terminology Thursday: Paul Gross Arms

We all know the emoticon \o/. It's even part of the AO3 logo. But what is it called?

It has many names, but to some due South fans \o/ will always be called Paul Gross Arms!

Inspired by Paul Gross striking the \o/ pose in the extremely cheesy music video for his song Voodoo, the term became popular among fans on LiveJournal in the mid-2000s, even inspiring celebratory picspams of various animals, people and things striking the pose.

That is one fine coffee! The Coffee Shop AU trope was originally known as Barista AU and became popular in LiveJournal fandoms. It is especially popular in fandoms where one character is very attached to coffee, either in canon or in fanon, or is frequently stressed.

Return to Livejournal?

So, I keep seeing people say they miss LJ. So do I.

The thing is, it’s STILL THERE. Why not go back? I mean, sure we’ll have to re-build communities, we’ll have to find each other, but so what? Fandom’s tough, we can do it.

If you don’t like LJ anymore after they got sold to Russia, then let’s try Dreamwidth! It’s got the same format without the Russian connection. 

I’ve just made new journals on each - I’m songscloset on both.

Well, I have a LJ/DW under the name roane, but it's been my RL journal for so long and so many of my friends there are not fandom people, I've not been comfortable using it for fandom purposes aside from posting to communities and such. I had set up a fandom LJ/DW, but nobody knew it was me, and since it was a different account, I rarely posted to it, because I am JUST THAT LAZY.

But! I set up roanefic.livejournal.com as a community, so I'll be posting there more often--I plan to eventually get all of my fic over there, so if that's where you like reading fic, there you go. :)
