hoooorayyy, family stuff under cut
Ever since my grandfather died a few years ago my grandma’s been living alone in her house.
My parents USED to live down the street from her but recently moved out of the city. And I live over 4 hours away. She has other children/grandchildren living nearby, but...
So my parents have been trying to get my grandmother to move in with them so she wouldn’t be alone all the time. She’s in her 80s, you know, she really shouldn’t be living alone.
Then my aunt and her kids threw a huge shitty tantrum about it and made her cry. I’ve literally only seen my grandmother cry once, at my grandfather’s funeral, and it was the worst thing I’ve ever seen. I cannot imagine making her cry. She’s best grandma.
My dad had taken her to a lawyer to get her will in order because my grandfather didn’t leave a will and it was a little bit of a mess, so let’s not repeat that. Well my aunt and cousins interpreted that as him wanting my grandmother’s house. He didn’t even go inside at the lawyer, he only drove her there.
My parents are uhhhh not upper class. Firmly upper middle class I guess? I’m not really sure. They both have worked in an airplane factory for decades, and they make a decent living. and now they don’t have kids living with them anymore so they’re doing alright. Point is they’re not trying to bilk my grandmother.
Her house is falling apart.
So, the reason I say hooray is because she finally moved in with them.
Now they’re hearing all sorts of stories from her about how my aunt and my cousins had been taking advantage of her.
They were crying baby shoes because her moving 40 minutes away would mean they’d see her less. My grandmother said they only came to visit once a month, during which they’d get her to buy her great grandkids things and get her to pay for lunch or dinner. She lives off of social security, and I doubt there’s much of that because her job before retirement was playing piano at the church.
So all that shit about how my parents were trying to take advantage was just them projecting. People are always projecting shit! The louder someone moans and complains about something the more sure you can be they’re the ones doing it, it seems >:C
But glad she’s not alone anymore. She was going weeks without seeing other people, and going to walmart for no reason just to get human interaction.
She’s been buying herself treats and things that she just wants which is very out of character for her, and I’m glad.
