Day 1: So it begins...

Wow, first day of classes and I feel like I’ve been thrown straight in the deep end. Not because the workload is heavier than my classes back in Australia but rather because it’s squeezed into such a short time frame. However, after I got over the original shock of realising my holidays are no more, it was great to have my camera in hand with a real purpose rather than just for fun.

The first photography activity seemed at first to be very familiar - take 2 portraits of a classmate - it’s nothing I haven’t done a million times before. But this was different. Instead of just taking photos of a friend styled however I wanted I was challenged to get to know a stranger and attempt to reflect something of them in these portraits based of 3 facts they give me about themself. Plus one of them was going to be directed by the person in front of the camera rather than the person behind it.

It isn’t easy to create a portrait that is meant to reflect someone’s life/experiences/tastes etc. when you only just met. The activity itself was really fun and it was great to learn about a new person in this unique way.

I can’t wait to see what this course has in store for me next.
