There are so many taboo topics in the African American community; one subject that is still vastly misunderstood is that of menstruation in women. #AD I remember having my 1st period at the tender age of 12. I was getting ready to go out of town for a dance competition and I remember standing on top of my bathroom toilet, bent over in front of a mirror, and crying with my sister on the other side of the door trying to yell directions for how to use a tampon at me.
