how would the companions react to sole adopting a few rats?

Honestly, I don't think they'd mind that much. For the rats, I'm going off with the ones in Far Harbour or something similar. I'm sure some have seen Molerats as pets before so nothing too dramatic of a change. Yeah, them having either light peach fuzz all around them or having patches of fur on the rats is a bit different than usual and they're a lot smaller, but it's all normal to them.
I think out of all of them MacCready would actually like the rats the most. He'd play with them, carry them around, or even have one on his shoulder. The rats like to steal toys and treats from other rats, making the rats chase to get them back. Whenever something like this happens MacCready loves watching the chase and simple "fights."
I also think Hancock would like them, to a degree. One or two rats at a time are the most he can handle. He just prefers to either sit down and play with them or just watch as they play and scurry around. He loves giving them food too. Giving them food or treats and seeing them run to hide and eat while others try to take the food back is absolutely hilarious to Hancock.
Strong though, he has to be, and I mean *has* to be monitored when holding and playing with the rats. It's all fine and dandy, holding and petting them, up until he wants to try and eat one. Just have a water spritzer around, and if Strong tries it just spray him and he'll be too shocked and confused to fight to keep his chosen rat snack in his possession.
Honestly, though, Cait would probably be the one most hesitant with the rats. She's fine looking and being around them. She'll even pet one a bit when someone is holding it. As soon as the rat tries to get her is when it shows she's not a big fan. Cait jumping away and backing up from it is pretty funny.
