Ironic how everyone makes fun of the Broadwaysies and Livesies casts (including Jeremy jordan) for being in their late twenties and early thirties when a majority of the 92sies cast was in their early to mid twenties (Christian was seventeen, David, Dee and Dominic were sixteen, Marty, Aaron, Matthew and Gabriel were fifteen, Brian was fourteen, and Arvie was thirteen).

I don’t think it’s ironic at all…. There’s a huge difference in having almost ALL the people playing newsies be in their late 20s-early 30s then having SOME of the newsies be in their early 20s.

Like you said above, Christian Bale was 17. There’s a MASSIVE difference in having a 17 year old play a 17 year old and a 30 year old play a 17 year old. Like massive difference. And I prefer the 17 year old.

Sure Max Casella was 24 and Kevin Stea was 23 but like I’m not seeing the majority.

Max played a big role with Racetrack, but he’s the only one of the “main” newsies who was in their 20s. The rest- Jack, David, Spot, Crutchy, Boots, Blink, and Mush were ALL teenagers. Kevin Stea doesn’t even have an individual line.

Some back up dancers were in their 20s but they weren’t even named characters.

I don’t think it’s comparable at all.

(This of course doesn’t even get into the fact that newsies weren’t all kids. There were adult newsies too but that’s a conversation for a different time)

Katherine plumber is harvey fierstien’s badly written self insert oc. A writer profiting off taking advantage of the newsies story without understanding a single bit of what was at risk or what they stood for. Yes, he made creepy comments about the fellows playing Jack at the broadway premier that hold true to this theory no matter how I wish we could deny it.

hi this is random but i just wanted you to know that i was looking through the notes on that post about what media you would get rid of and i saw you hating on livesies so i followed you immediately. i've made my peace with it over the years and listen to it occasionally (usually just in my playlist that sort of combines them into one plot lol) but people treating the broadway version as the default is my villain origin story. almost every single change they made is bafflingly stupid. if i meet whoever decided to butcher the character of jack kelly and cast a fully grown ass man in the role i cannot be held responsible for my actions!

I mean literally everything else aside (which I also have issues with) I will never forgive whoever was in charge of butchering Jack’s character. Like I already wasn’t a fan the first time I saw it and then it felt like being slapped when Jack called Crutchy a literal SLUR

Anyway, thanks friend! I promise to continue to be a livesies hater in 2023 and beyond 💕✨

I still think the Newsies set needs to be warmer with less steel but I will say that west endsies went HARD on that set design and it’s leaps and bounds more interesting than the Livesies set

Saw your post about west endsies and wanted to add that I hope (but probably in vain) that they will change a lot with Jack and Katherine's relationship because of how "ugh" it is to have this rich white girl come in and save the poor black kid and then her dad gives him a job and he's "fixed."

I know it's probably going to all be exactly the same but I wish it wouldn't be. That stuff was all bad before and it's just worse now.

You’re so right. The ending is one of my least favorite things about livesies in general, cause in my opinion it destroys the whole message of the show, that poor people and children have agency and that they can and should have a say over their working conditions and their futures.

And now, how white savior can you get??

I sincerely hope they take the chance to change things but considering they would have to rewrite like….the whole show….I doubt it.
