UTCM Blog Moment: “It’s the Light That I Carry”
This week I have reminded of something powerful — it’s the light that I carry.
Thank you, Michelle Obama, for the reminder that when we go low, we still have the choice to go high. But what I am learning is this: being light in dark places is not an easy walk.
Light exposes.
Light disrupts.
Light requires responsibility.
During some intentional self-reflection, I realized something deeper God’s love is unconditional, but my obedience is a choice.
I can dim my own light.
I can be disobedient by avoiding the very things I know I should be committed to.
I can make idols out of money, my mental pain, distractions, or material things.
I can subscribe to everything else podcasts, social media, opinions, fear but neglect the one subscription that never expires: God’s Word.
One of my favorite scriptures is 2 Timothy 1:7
“For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”
I can quote it… but do I believe it?
That question humbled me.
I’m learning that moments where I struggle to fully believe God’s Word are not grounds for condemnation they are invitations to conviction. And conviction is growth… even when it doesn’t feel like growth.
Growth doesn’t always look like elevation.
Sometimes it looks like confrontation.
Sometimes it looks like accountability.
Sometimes it looks like choosing discipline over comfort.
So today, I’m encouraging myself and my UTCM community:
Carry your light well.
Don’t idolize what was never meant to lead you.
Return to the Source.
Believe what you quote.
Commit to what you know.
The light is already in you.
