Lyra’s Conspiracy Corner-SVTFOE: “Cleaved”: What the HECK is Up With the Wand(s)??
OKAY YES I KNOW I LITERALLY JUST DID A THEORY POST ON THIS SHOW BUT THIS CAME IN A LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN SO HEAR ME OUT PLS??
Gonna bring up a few things from Season 2, so if you haven’t gotten that far this is your SPOILER WARNING.
Season 1 of svtfoe ended with Star’s wand split in half, with Ludo finding the other half during Season 2.And only after THAT do we learn that Toffee’s finger was inside Star’s wand.
Now think about this: that finger’s been inside Star’s wand THIS ENTIRE TIME, since BEFORE the show started, yet it doesn’t contaminate Star’s magic like we see happen in the beginning of “Into the Wand” until Ludo finds the other half of the wand. Wouldn’t you think it’d be a problem BEFORE then?
I think now I realize what Glossaryck was referring to when he was explaining the word ‘cleaved’:
“Cleaved. Now that's a funny word. You can cleave something apart, or you can cleave something together.”
The former half of the statement may be obvious, but what of the latter? it wouldn’t be brought up like that unless it was important, and now I realize it is.
In my last svtfoe theory post I brought up the idea that Toffee not only reached for the wand (hence why his arm forms Ludo’s half of it), but that his soul is inside the wand itself.
That blast in “Storm the Castle” cleaved the wand apart, and then cleaved Toffee’s soul TO IT.
Now, what does that have to do with Star’s wand?
Much like Voldemort and Harry Potter’s wands, Star and Ludo’s wands are connected. They used to be one whole wand, but now are two halves used by VERY different people.
So when Toffee occupied Ludo’s half of the wand (not that the dude’s REALIZED that apparently), Toffee’s finger in Star’s half reawakened, which resulted in... well...
Yeah...
Furthermore, even though Toffee’s finger is now out of the wand and in Star’s closet, “Bon Bon the Birthday Clown” showed Star unintentionally using dark magic--or to be more accurate, her spells turning dark--from something as simple as jealousy, or to be more accurate, envy (yes, envy as in “the seven deadly sins” envy).
A possible reason why is that Toffee’s soul, amplifying Ludo’s anger/negative emotions in one half of the wand, is ALSO amplifying Star’s negative feelings.
Need evidence of this? Watch “Spider With a Top Hat” and pay attention to when Spider is summoned out of the wand.
The left half--the half we see on Star’s wand--is pink, but the RIGHT SIDE is GREEN, like Ludo’s! Thus PROVING the wands are connected!
And while Toffee may not be directly INSIDE Star’s wand (again, he only got cleaved to one half of it) he DEFINITELY has an indirect influence over the wand--or more specifically, the unicorn powering Star’s wand.
Is there any way to get Toffee OUT of the wand? Hopefully Season 3 will answer that for us.
Lyra’s Conspiracy Corner-Star VS The Forces of Evil: “Taking Apart Toffee”
Recently fell into the show “Star Vs the Forces of Evil” (or SVTFOE, cuz SHEESH that’s a long-ass title), and like many fans of the show I’ve gotten interested in our mysterious new antagonist, Toffee. So, after some thought and watching a few things I decided to make a theory post on the guy, though it probably won’t be the only one since we have another season coming up next year I believe.
Also, be known that I’ll be tackling things both in the Season 1 finale AND some shit in Season 2, so if you haven’t gotten up-to-date, this is your SPOILER WARNING.
First let’s take a look at what we already know--the guy is missing a finger, literally the first thing we see of him in his debut “Fortune Cookies”. ”Mewnipendence Day” implies it involves the Monster Massacre, with how he clenches and unclenches his hand.
We get more info (tho not much), when he mentions that Ludo “isn’t the first monster to fall victim to [the Royals’] magic”, and he even knows the very first spell Star was taught. Creepy.
Furthermore, we learn in the Season 1 finale that the dude has regenerative powers, as he fucking regrows a whole arm, only to get blown up by Star’s self-destructing wand about five minutes later.
And then while he has yet to actually reappear, We DO see him.
Well, part of him anyway.
Not only there, but also on Moon’s tapestry in “Into the Wand”, but I’ll go into more detail later.
NOW TO THE THEORIZING!!
What can we learn from all of this?
Let’s tackle the possibilities of Toffee’s past first.
So far, we can only know for sure that Toffee knew the Royal Family somehow (possibly Moon in particular, considering “Into the Wand”), and that Toffee lost his finger during the Monster Massacre of Mewnipendence Day. However, the circumstances of Toffee’s loss of finger are actually pretty vague, even though we KNOW from Moon’s tapestry exactly HOW he lost it.
Why do I say it’s vague? Because Mewnipendence Day and the Massacre THEMSELVES have been vaguely told to us so far. When Star explains to everyone about the holiday in the episode “Mewnipendence Day”, she is ridiculously vague about the fighting scenes, literally skipping over them. It’s not until later we find out why.
The monsters were unarmed with no equal weapons. The whole scenario is eerily identical to Europeans settling the Americas and other places and driving out the “savage” Natives.
On top of that, we know that Mewmen view Monsters as sub-... Mewman, I guess? Point is they’re below them. Racial tensions, essentially.
But “Into the Wand” shows that not ALL Mewmen view Monsters with such disdain, even introducing us to Star’s greatx7 grandmother Eclipsa Queen of Darkness, who ditched her arranged marriage to a Mewman king for a Monster husband instead. Perhaps Moon agreed with this view and wished to carry out her ancestor’s wishes; she clearly knows more about Eclipsa than just the whole “Queen of Darkness” bit, otherwise she would’ve reacted the same way as the others when Glossaryck mentions Star was about to read her section in “Page Turner”.
Both Goat-Bat and Fire-Princess look horrified that Star is about to read about the Butterfly family’s black sheep, but Moon... just looks mildly surprised.
I bring this up because why would an enemy of the Mewman Royalty have their emblems on his uniform?
Diamonds for Moon, Spades for Eclipsa. Two queens that would’ve wanted equality for Monsters and Mewmen.
But that’s not all--Toffee’s weapon in the tapestry is... an odd choice, to say the least.
The weapon depicted is, not a sword or a mace, as we have seen other Monsters use, but a sickle. A freaking farming tool. Does this mean Toffee has a farming/peasant background?
On top of that, tapestry!Toffee is missing, of all things, his tail. It would imply he was being transformed, wouldn’t it?
But what does it mean?
It’s possible that Toffee and Moon were two friends--Toffee possibly a servant or politician of lower class, as we’re not certain how they were treated prior to the Massacre--trying to negotiate equality between Mewmen and Monsters, only for things to go downhill. This could possibly result in the Monster Massacre (Star’s outfit during the reenactment is HELLA similar to her mother’s), where the two clashed in battle with Moon severing Toffee’s finger during the battle.
But then why keep it?
It’s possible Moon kept it because she felt guilty over doing such a thing to her friend, even if he WAS a monster. Or, there could be something MORE to it than we know.
Instead of destroying it, Star tossed the finger into her closet, so odds are we’ll see it again in the future.
But speaking of parts of Toffee, the heck is his hand doing holding Ludo’s part of Star’s wand?
I’m starting to think that Toffee grabbed it just before it exploded. But why?
Ludo’s wand, unlike Star’s, actually talks to him, advising him on what to do or not do. It’s possible that Toffee’s soul went into the wand and he is now a sort of spirit inside the wand. This way, he can manipulate wand-hungry Ludo into doing his dirty work. But what is that dirty work leading to?
When Star grabs Toffee’s finger, we see flashing images: Toffee’s smirk before the wand exploded, the wand cracking, Eclipsa, and the wand turning green.
It’s possible that Toffee used dark magic to become part of Ludo’s wand, and that he needs MORE dark magic to make a new body. Where would he get more info on dark magic from?
The wand manual’s chapter on Eclipsa, Queen of Darkness.
And I’m certain that’s just the tip of this lizard’s iceberg.
