I did what, now?
In casual conversation with a co worker, it was brought up that Tumblr is a pretty decent place to build a following, and for folks to organically follow artists(ie, build up your brand).
Of course, I did the only thing I could think of, which was to scrub my memory banks and try to recall if I had/have a Tumblr page. Which led me to here. Wow. I haven't updated here since almost 6 years ago? I used to have a Tumblr and posted about Second Place, which was published by Sourcepoint Press and didn't do so well? Well, in a word? Yeah. Between back then, and now, I've grown a lot artistically, personally and I guess it's really time that I started to invest in myself a little more than I did back then. See, Second Place was exciting for me, because I got asked to draw a book. Before that? I just drew for myself and anyone who had decided to throw me some attention and ask me to draw a pin up, or a short page run. Now, it sounds like I'm talking myself down and to a degree I am, just not harshly, or negatively. I mean, back then I ran on copying things that I had seen or read in my extensive history of being a fan of comics and not much of a student. In short, past Ed only knew so much and could only produce work based on that knowledge. Current day Ed knows more and can produce better work, but still isn't as good as future Ed will be. My new outlook on life being that I should and do exercise compassion, patience and understanding for myself, without sacrificing the desire to drive harder and learn more. I've worked on a few other books and stories since Second Place. Hellpug and Velocicock, an indy book that was a story from the CCG Hellraisers, created and published by Silet Mayhem Productions. Warrior Sword Pilgrim Manalex, written and created by Alex Augustyn Callazo. I did some supporting 2 page stories for the Mike Wieringo Tellos Tribute Graphic Novel, written by Todd Dezago. And lastly, I drew the first Danger Team spinoff story for the Giant Girl Adventures Universe, created by Sabrina Pandora, under the Giant Girl comics umbrella (there are also some other books and stories that will see the light of day, as well!) My point is that I've grown and am costantly still learning. And I was reminded that Tumblr was/is a pretty great place to showcase that growth, as well as grow an audience for myself.
