ON THE RIVIERA: Well, Prince is back, and Madonna’s not got him. “Under the Cherry Moon,” which was obviously wirtten to be a cinematic coupling of these two hot rock stars, goes before the cameras September 11th in the South of France, under the direction of Mary Lambert (who helmed all of Madonna’s music videos, including “Material Girl”) - but it will go without Madonna, thank you. For reasons that nobody cares to go into, the Madonna role will now be played by one Suzannah, who hails from Prince’s band The Family. She’ll be a spoiled rich brat of 21 who’s kidnapped by a winsome Riviera hustler (this will be a reach for Prince). Terence Stamp and Piper Laurie have signed up as her parents.

Prince’s next movie was to be made with Madonna as co-star, but I haven’t heard any more about that lately.
As for Madonna, I hear there’s a move afoot among the celebrated who live in the San Remo apartments in Manhattan (Mary Tyler Moore, Dustin Hoffman, Diane Keaton, Donald Sutherland and Tony Randall) to get the rock star into their building. She has re-applied for admittance.

Much is rumored, but little is on paper. However, here’s a definite deal - Madonna (will) star in the Walt Disney comedy, “Ruthless People,” in a script by Dale Launer. The story involves a Beverly Hills housewife who is kidnapped. Her husband doesn’t want her back and the kidnappers find she is more trouble than she is worth. The hands on the helm will be those of that wild and crazy crew who brought us “Airplane” - David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker. There is a fall start date under the Touchstone banner. The plot, right out of O Henry’s “The Ransom of Red Chief,” is hoary with age, but I’m sure Madonna will make it shine like new.
I’ve started heating up the iron, because it’s beginning to look as if the Madonna-Sean Penn wedding is a green light “go” and I want my dress to be just right.
In case you care, here is the exact wording of the wedding invitation.
This is offered for the record as a public service for what was the original scoop of syndicated columnist Suzy: “Please come to Madonna and Sean Penn’s birthday party on the 16th of August. The celebration will commence at 6p.m. Please be prompt or you will miss the wedding. Location will be announced. The need for privacy and desire to keep you hanging on prevents the LA location from being announced. Please let us know your phone number.”
A card is enclosed for the elite to say yes and tell how they can be reached for the final info.

Madonna in Prince’s second movie
Prince’s second movie, to follow the popular Purple Rain, will co-star Madonna (who is on the cover of Time magazine this week) and they’re still trying to decide on a director. I hear veteran Herb Ross turned it down.
