By the way
pdi15 and punyuy asked me to post the Shamy fic I wrote when “The Theory of Everything” came out.
So, here it is again. Enjoy my friends, this is one of my favorites.
Sheldon and Amy had decided to go to the movies and watch “The Theory of everything”. Amy was excited to see it, but not as much as Sheldon; he already considered himself as someone really close to Stephen Hawking and that made him feel special. Besides, he had always admired him for his amazing and successful career. He wanted to be like him someday.
Once the movie was over, they started to talk about it.
“I really liked it. It was quite long, but it was certainly beautiful and educational” Amy said as she walked out of the theater with Sheldon.
“It wasn’t that bad, but it was clearly not as I expected” Sheldon said.
“What do you mean?” Amy asked.
“When I read it was going to be a Biopic movie, I thought it would be more about his job as an astrophysicist and about his theories, but it turned out to be more like a love story” he explained.
“I felt it explained a lot about his research and his theories” Amy said.
“It did; but not as much as I wanted” Sheldon said groaning.
“Well, I loved it, to be honest. I don’t know why you don’t like it; it was really romantic, especially when they danced”. Amy said
“My point” Sheldon said, as he explained the reason of his state of dislike.
“So, it’s still early, wanna go to eat something?” Amy asked.
“Sure” he said.
Since it was Thursday, that meant it was Pizza night on Sheldon’s calendar, so they went to eat pizza. As they entered the restaurant, Amy asked Sheldon to wait for her on the table while she went to the restroom. Sheldon did as he was told. While he sat waiting for Amy, his mind kept thinking about the movie. Sheldon already knew Stephen Hawking’s life, but watching it had made an impact; the fact that it had been more about love and Stephen and Jane Hawking’s marriage wasn’t really the thing that made Sheldon dislike it, it was true he expected to see more about his job, but at the end, it was kind of disappointing that they had gotten a divorce. When Amy came back, it was Sheldon’s turn to go to the restroom to wash his hands, then, he went back to his table and they ordered their food. Amy started to talk about her day at the lab and about a new research she had been working on. Sheldon just stared at her, but his mind was someplace else, he started to wonder what would happen if he had a life like Hawking’s.
“Sheldon, are you listening to me? You seem distracted” Amy said, flicking her fingers to make Sheldon get out of “the zone”.
“I’m sorry, I’m just thinking” Sheldon apologize.
“May I know what are you thinking?” Amy asked.
“Can I ask you something?” Sheldon said.
“Hum, sure, I guess” Amy said confused.
“You already know that my mind is as brilliant as Stephen Hawking’s, right?” he asked. Amy nodded.
“Well, I’m thinking that it doesn’t really matter how smart you are, you can always get a disease like his…” he continued explaining.
“I agree with you, but if you’re trying to tell me something, I might need more context here to have an epiphany, Sheldon”. Amy said.
“My point is, if for some reason, I ever get sick and I end up on a wheel chair, would you take care of me?” Sheldon asked. He was getting worried about it and he wanted to know the answer.
“Of course I would, Sheldon. Why do you ask?” Amy asked.
“That’s what Jane said to him, and they got divorced, she got tired of him, Amy. How could someone get tired of Stephen Hawking? I’d be so honored to take care of him” Sheldon said exasperated.
“Well, it was pretty exhausting to take care of him. I’m sure you would do the same, no matter who that person is, don’t you think?” Amy said.
“So, you’re saying that if that happens to me, you’ll get tired too and you’ll leave me?” Sheldon asked.
“No. I’m saying that I understand why she left him, but I’m not saying I would do the same with you” Amy explained.
“Really? Would you stand by me? Even if you have to carry me everywhere?” he asked.
“I would carry you everywhere” she answered
“Even if I cannot move any muscle?”
“Even if you cannot move any muscle”.
“Do you realize that I wouldn’t be able to hug you, to cuddle with you, and probably, after some years, have coitus with you?” Sheldon asked.
“Yes, and still, I’d be with you. Besides, we had never have coitus, we barely touch each other and I only get to kiss you at the end of every date night. I think I could handle it”. Amy said proudly. Sheldon stared at her. “So, do you have more questions?” Amy asked him.
“No. I think I’m done here” Sheldon said as he went back to his food. Now, it was Amy that was staring at him.
“Sheldon, you would do the same for me, wouldn’t you?” Amy asked.
“I don’t think I would have to” Sheldon said.
“Yeah, well, the odds of getting a disease like that are really low, but I’m asking you hypothetically” Amy said.
“I know” Sheldon said.
“And? Why do you think you wouldn’t have to do all those things for me?” Amy asked, she was kind of used to Sheldon’s selfishness at this point, but it would surely break her heart of Sheldon said he wouldn’t take care of her.
“Because if you ever get a disease like that I would do whatever it’d take to find the cure. Even if I have to change my physics study to neurobiology” Sheldon said. Amy thought that was certainly the best answer he could have given. “And you know I’d succeed. I excel at everything” He added. Amy smiled at him.
“I love you, Sheldon” She said tenderly.
“I love you, too. But I’d suggest you to change your answer for my answer; it makes more sense since you’re the neurobiologist here” he said before drinking some juice.
“Then I take back what has been said” Amy said happily.
Once they were done with the food, they decided to take a walk. They went to a park that was a few blocks away from the restaurant. There only were a few people there, so, technically they were alone. Sheldon took Amy’s hand in his as they walked without being asked, which surprised Amy.
“What are you doing?” She asked, although, she wasn’t going to complain.
“I figured it would be really awful to lose all motor skills and abilities to move the body as someone’s will, so I say we better take advantage of them while we can” he said, looking at her.
“You’re right” Amy said squeezing his hand. They stared at each other for a few seconds before Sheldon asked.
“Would you like to dance?”
“Really? Here?” Amy asked excited.
“Sure, why not?” Sheldon said tangling his fingers between Amy’s and placing his other hand on her waist. He started to move his feet on the floor thinking of the musical notes that would be heard if they had waltz music. Amy just played along with him, moving her feet as Sheldon leaded her.
“Oh, this is so romantic” She said.
“I know. Just like in the movie” Sheldon said smiling.
“Wait” Amy said.
“What?” Sheldon asked as Amy pulled out her phone.
“I just remembered: I have waltz music. I like to listen to it while I’m at work” She explained as she pressed play on the screen. Sheldon took her again and they started to dance. Once the track was over, they stopped dancing; however, they stayed close, with their hands still together. Sheldon knew he had to kiss Amy until the very end of their date, but he just couldn’t wait any longer: he leaned down and pressed his lips against hers. Amy kissed him back without hesitating.
“As usual, that was nice” Amy said when they broke the kiss.
“I know, but now we will have to kiss again when you take me home” Sheldon said.
“I’m okay with it” Amy said giggling.
“Me too” Sheldon said, taking her hand again before leaving the park.
