TOMORROW NIGHT! MUERTE: Lizz Lopez’s solo art show ( @onemorefix ) Saturday, August 25th @lethalamounts 7pm-10pm DJ’s @jpeg01 @artofcoop At the Gallery: 1226 W 7th st. A little about @onemorefix Born the daughter of a Southern Baptist minister, Lizz Lopez experienced a curious and restricted childhood in San Antonio, Texas. Since her exposure to secular activities was limited, she pored over medical books and encyclopedias provided by her mother and with the help of her brothers, gained a culture of music, snuck comic books, drug store magazines such as Muerte and Alarma, and books by Stephen King. Obsessed with images of death, botany, physical anomalies, disease and mortality, she wrote and illustrated her own horror stories. Inspired by the vulnerability and fragility of the human body and her own obsession with life and death, Lizz pursued a career in the medical field, attending the University of the Incarnate Word under the tutelage of nuns. She worked as a registered nurse but soon escaped to San Francisco and attended the San Francisco Art Institute, earning an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in classical oil painting. After the dot com bust, Lizz moved to Los Angeles to make movie posters for Sony and Lionsgate. She continued to paint as well as manage pain in terminally ill patients and spent multiple years as a cardiothoracic ICU nurse. Eventually, she returned to the university and earned a master’s degree in anesthesia. When she is not putting patients to sleep, she is creating art. Lizz currently works mostly with graphite, enjoying the stark contrast she can achieve with the medium, focusing on the precision of complex structures such as lace and bones. She has exhibited and been published internationally. Her work is featured in a line of clothing by Sullen apparel and her designs have been embraced by multiple major rock bands further ensconcing her work in the world of contemporary art. #lethalamountsgallery #lizzlopez #onemorefix #graphitedrawing #darkart #realism #artist #artshow #dj #sullen #sullenartcollective (at Lethal Amounts)
