Don't just spend time; invest it! - Day 151: no debt payments today, hanging on 'til payday. I've finished a lengthy audio book👍, checked out 2 more and a couple books about buying your first house💸! I love to constantly learn. One thing I am learning more about & have been trying to implement is time budgeting. ⏰Time is even more finite than finances, so are you budgeting your time to aggressively pursue your goals?! - - 💰 Money tip: do your research before any major purchase!!! Anticipating baby steps 3 (emergency fund) and 3b (house down payment), we are starting to research buying a first home. Conspicuous Progression - Day 147: Katie made a $200 payment on OSAP today! Love seeing the numbers tick down! Especially because as the principle changes the daily interest charged becomes less and less! Speaking of interest, did you know that the annual #interest on Canada's debt is almost as much as the annual budget for K-12 education?! Craziness! Maybe if the federal budget was balanced they wouldn't be continually slashing needed supports for our students! The budget is blamed for the cuts, while copious amounts are wasted on frivolities (yes I love using cool words 😎). - - 💰 Money tip: adults devise a plan and stick to it; children just do what feels good. The Political Perturbation - Day 145: no payment today. Politics seems to be dominating discussions and Facebook feeds everywhere lately...but in all honesty, doesn't it just distract us from taking ownership of our own lives? The following is a quote from C.S. Lewis' book "the Screwtape Letters". My Dear Wormwood, Be sure that the patient remains completely fixated on politics. Arguments, political gossip, and obsessing on the faults of people they have never met serves as an excellent distraction from advancing in personal virtue, character, and the things the patient can control. Make sure to keep the patient in a constant state of angst, frustration and general disdain towards the rest of the human race in order to avoid any kind of charity or inner peace from further developing. Ensure that the patient continues to believe that the problem is “out there” in the “broken system” rather than recognizing there is a problem with himself. Inheritance - Day 143: so Levi's dedication today got me thinking about inheritance. The Bible says a good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children. Now money is not the only thing of importance that is passed generationally, but I think that we need to be intentional in leaving a legacy to the next generation & equipping them to carry it on with competence, integrity and dignity. Zig Ziglar tells the following story (I am paraphrasing): many years ago in the hills of east Tennessee there was a boy born to a single mother, his name was Ben Hooper. Now in those days boys who didn't know who their fathers were were treated very poorly, so when Ben started school he stayed at his desk while the other kids played at recess. One day Ben heard about the new young pastor in town, how compassionate and caring he was. So Ben, never having been to church before, went that Sunday. Arrived late & left early to avoid attention, but felt something which drew him to return. He did the arrive late and leave early routine a few times but one Sunday the preaching was so compelling & seemed to be so fitting for him that Ben forgot to leave early. The service was dismissed and before Ben could leave he felt a hand on his shoulder. It was the young pastor, who greeted him by stating the question that had been on everyone's minds for years "now whose boy are you?" The church got deathly quiet, you could have heard the proverbial pin drop. And then a smile spread over the young minister's face "oh the family resemblance is strong, you're a child of the King! Now that's quite an inheritance you've got there...make sure you go and live up to it!" And Ben Hooper later said, that was the moment his perspective changed & the moment that propelled him to later become elected the governor of Tennessee.
