When is your Dionysus meeting, and in a general vague way could you describe what you go over? I’m imagining details of your oath you promised and what you need to work on for the following year, sort of thing ... understand if it’s too personal, but I love the idea of a check in. It’s fascinating
Small disclaimer before I go on: this is all personal experience. What I do is a me thing only.
So, those yearly checks only started last year, after reaching the 5-year mark. I hit a point where I felt I was missing something, like I’ve met a dead end and wasn’t sure how to evolve from there. It was a time where I reached out to Dionysus to let him know I was going through a small “crisis of faith” and needed direction.
Not only did he give me a direction and something to work on, but he made it clear this was long-term work and we’d check on this later. Because this checkup happened between December and January, which also fits with his most active time of the year, it made sense to keep that timeframe.
So that’s for the general context. I did the meeting last weekend (that’s why I didn’t post), which essentially boils down to having a long divination session. Here are the main points we went through:
1. Previous year
Summary of the previous year (what has been done, what has been learnt...)
Overall satisfaction on his part and what could have been done better
2. Plans for the next year
General direction he has in mind
What’s the beneft of said direction
What I should be focusing on worship-wise
3. Oath
General opinion on the matter
What he’d like to see included in a new oath
Dionysus has been very unconcerned about the oath part tbh. I think I can confidently say that my old oath doesn’t bind me anymore. We’re not talking about renewing this one, rather than creating a new one altogether. I’m hoping to get this done by the end of the month but I still need to work on it. Oaths are personal in the sense that they are not necessary in any way, so it’s all about making the personal choice (and challenge) to live up to one. They are essentially self-curses and need to be carefully put together to avoid accidental breachings. It’s important to remember a deity has no interest in smiting a devotee, but an oath puts both devotee and deity in a position where this is a risk. This is why it’s in our common interest to thread lightly here.
4. Extras
Basically the usual matters that you want to catch up on. Mine were about Priapus. I personally abide by the version that Priapus is Dionysus’ son, so I wanted to tell Dionysus how much I love his son check in and see if there was any parallels/correlation between them in term of my personal worship.
