Recently, i've been starting to apreciate my culture and country more.
I'm italian, but i think that a lot of people can resonate with the sentiment of being somewhat ashamed of the fact that your country is not doing big hits, big movies, famous books, known music that you like.
But then i realised... it's not that. People from my country, from my culture, with the same heritage as me are creating something that rapresents that and, to a certain extent, me... it's just that this works are not famous. You have to search for them, cherish them, know that it's up to you to support those artists and make sure they don't fall into oblivion for the marasma of big production content that dominates everything.
I'm tired of supporting a sistem that crushes local projects made with absolute love, that depict real enviroments and lives and helps local artists and is not constricted by corporate rules AND does not give your money to greedy bastards that couldn't care less of producing something beautiful, valuing only the profit.
We talk a lot about rapresentation, but i think it shouldn't only mean "having characters of different etnicities in a US/UK show". Rapresentation should also be made by sharing works and projects from the country and culture in question.
Expecially in this climate of protests and strikes, i think supporting small and local artists is more relevant than ever.
Support your culture. Support your artists <3
