State Route 88 and Centerville Lane is one of the most dangerous intersections in Douglas County. But later this month, NDOT says workers will start putting in a roundabout unlike any other you've seen before on state routes.

I know this means nothing to most of you.

But I live close to this intersection. They say in the video that it “doesn’t look that dangerous,” but...trust me, if you’re turning from Centerville Lane to Highway 88, it’s scary as heck when you’re behind the wheel.

If there is anyone coming, you have to judge their speed, as you have a stop sign coming from Centerville but it’s a 45 or 55 mph zone for those on the highway, with no stop sign (and there’s ALWAYS someone coming; you have to decide whether you can speed up quickly enough after turning to avoid an accident).

And if there’s someone behind you leaning on their horn, (we have a LOT of impatient drivers in this area, for as small a town as we are) it becomes even more stressful, and you have to suppress the urge to move just to placate the jerk behind you.

I’m not a fan of roundabouts at all, and I would prefer a traffic light, but it will still be better than it is now. In the short time I’ve lived here I’ve heard about WAY too many fatal accidents at this location.
