it's sooo sad to see that all the 7b antis ended up being right in the end 😭i defended the fuck outta this book - because while it was contemporary, it actually had a very interesting plot with several interconnecting themes and subplots. but now it's turned into "the summer i turned my first two loves to all the boys pretty." its cartoonishness would almost be funny if it wasn't so sad.
sure, sometimes the story read as both intro feminism and capitalism for dummies, but there was heart to it, and jaynie's struggles to rectify the realities of her life as someone who's working class with the absurd excess of her ultra-rich housemates AND the goddamn "fbi" breathing down her back was compelling.
now it's turned into some rosewood pride bullshit sprinkled with teeeeny tiny bits of a half-assed class war happening in the backrgound between her classes, parties, and spontaneous get-aways plus chewing on the stale leftovers of romantic scenes you get with your LI if it isn't james. such a fucking waste of potential, i've NEVERRR seen a story, especially of langley's deteriorate this badly
hello diva i fondly remember you from the tag as one of the very few sane people in this fandom
all these people coming out of the woodwork (again) to be like i 🤓☝️ knew 7b was a flop from the first season like... not quite actually. the only reason you were all seething back then was because none of you can stand a fmc who isn't a blazing corona of strength and fight and witty one liners (but without ever getting upset at their male lis who treat like them a speck of dirt on their shoe), while jaynie made exactly the type of decisions and mistakes a 18 y/o would
7b started off as playing with exploration sexuality and bdsm and yes, like you said, very basic feminism and classism but it had a feeling of actually going somewhere. s1 jaynie struggling to keep up with academics, the fbi bullshit, her family, uni life & romance vs s3 jaynie on her fourth getaway of the week with her rich friend or rich boyfriend #whogafaboutmoney (which was introduced as the entire fucking theme?)
we had good bdsm rep that wasn't just fifty shades rewrapped! we had a wider range of sexualities for jaynie to explore, which actually impacted her relationships and didn't just eventually end up generalized and clumped together! (my oc being demisexual and actually having a proper convo about what it means for sex with tristan) healthy communication both romantically and sexually in a way that is so uniquely langley no other writer on the app could write with such precise branching!
all of this thrown away for licking that rat's ass. every theme that was picked up dropped to fuck this clown in venice and giving him an over the top 'savior' moment (genuinely burst out laughing when a friend told me about him hunting down and punching that assaulter like are you not embarrassed... @langley)
i'm mad asfkkkkkk bc i genuinely love tristan. and i loved the way his route was written (and i mean actual words on the screen writing too) and now we get... what? the whole betray and bring my friends' families down thing which was built up from the beginning to end done and dusted in one episode (do not forget LA getaway☝️). finals (studying. which still means something as a scholarship student) over in the span of three screenshots. at a party: yeah i love you let's move in together hehe anyway. like girl... and this is me complaining about the white male li. i cannot imagine what the rest of you are going through
speaking only for the two i've romanced: tristan's route had so much potential to call out and correct the type of idealistic thinking rich people fall into. him not paying for a more expensive rehab for carter could've been the perfect chance for the narrative to poke at how idealism/rich people often stick to their dreams so rigidly it doesn't materialize in real life ie making a tangible impact in the life of someone you know with your money
as for lilian, my babygirl was nuked from the beginning. i dropped her route after s1 so tell me if it got any better, but even during s1 all her interactions were just sex sex sex bdsm kink and she was never really given any depth beyond that. also several instances of walking closet for the mc syndrome which made me side eye langley HARD
