This little plant is Spigelia pulchella, which I don't believe has a common name in English. They're endemic to Bahia, Brazil, and found only in the dry, rocky, fire-prone campo rupestre habitat. This one is still in bud, probably to the disappointment of the little bee in the photo. I loved the curve of its inflorescence!

The specific epithet "pulchella" (second word in a scientific name) means "pretty", though, and I think "pretty pinkroot" would be an apt name for this cute little plant!

One of the two species we get down here around Perth. All five are endemic to southern Australia. Flowers are small, four-petaled, and white.

Many members of the Loganiaceae are extremely poisonous, causing death by convulsion. The most famous are the rainforest lianas of the genus Strychnos, source of the poisons strychnine and curare.
